“Thank you for allowing me to perform my mini-practicum at IPHRC. I still cannot quantify the amount of information which I have learned from my time at IPHRC. IPHRC has not only offered me more insight into research, but I have also learned a vast amount of information with regard to aboriginal culture. I know the skills and knowledge attained at IPHRC will truly prove valuable in my future as a social worker.

The strength of IPHRC is the people. Granted that statement is very simple yet the people in any organization are the backbone and at IPHRC I have observed that there is a strong bond between colleagues. As a student with limited experience in research and knowledge of Indigenous culture I felt as if I was truly accepted and treated with the utmost respect. I am truly thankful to have worked with such a high caliber of individuals.

“My dream job last spring had evolved to more of a learning experience that I ever hoped. During this term, I had the opportunity to learn some of the financial aspects of research grants, attended writing workshops, and conducted some preliminary thematic analysis of qualitative research through coding transcripts. This learning experience has provided me with the necessary skills to delve further into the research process as a future researcher. As a result of my work experience this year, I feel more confident in my ability to work on future research projects.

Being able to learn more about being a researcher and the hands on experience that I have been given will definitely prove to be valuable skills when I do go out in the field on my own as a health researcher. As a result of my learning experience with IPHRC, I want to further my education in the health field. I am planning to apply for the Masters of Public Health in the Fall, 2008, thanks to my peers and mentors in this field.”
